What to Pack for a Children's Beach Holiday: A Simple Swimwear Capsule

Packing for children has a habit of expanding to fill every available corner of a suitcase. The easiest way to keep it under control is to build a small capsule around pieces that dry quickly, move comfortably and can be worn in more than one way.

For a warm-weather family holiday, the aim is not to pack for every possible scenario. It is to create a short rotation that can handle swimming, lunch, play and the inevitable second change of clothes.

Begin with two reliable swim options

Two swim looks per child is a useful starting point. One can be worn while the other dries, without turning the suitcase into a miniature wardrobe department.

The Isla girls' bikini has a clean strapless silhouette with an adjustable fit and quick-drying European stretch fabric. It is designed for comfortable movement and dependable shape retention, so it works well as one of those pieces that can be reached for repeatedly through a trip.

For children who enjoy a little more coverage or a different silhouette, a swim skirt can add variety without adding complexity. The Marisol girls' swim skirt is lightweight, quick-drying and designed with a play-ready fit. It can be layered into the same swim rotation rather than treated as an entirely separate outfit.

Pack pieces that can be mixed rather than matched perfectly

Children's holiday clothes work hardest when nothing is too precious about the combination. Choose a small colour story so tops, swim pieces and light layers can be swapped without thought. White, soft neutrals and one stronger colour are often enough to make the suitcase feel coherent.

This also makes dressing quicker in the morning, which is a surprisingly valuable luxury on a family holiday.

Prioritise quick-drying fabrics

Swimwear that stays heavy for hours creates unnecessary washing and packing problems. Quick-drying stretch fabric helps keep the rotation moving, particularly when there are several swims in one day or when a family is changing hotels.

Both Isla and Marisol are made from soft European stretch fabric selected for comfort, coverage and shape retention. That matters for children because swimwear needs to cope with repeated movement rather than simply look polished for a photograph.

Add one easy layer for lunch and wandering

A loose shirt, simple dress or lightweight trouser can turn swimwear into something appropriate for a café, shaded lunch or walk back through town. The best layer is one that can be pulled on without complicated fastenings and folded into a beach bag without protest.

For younger children especially, ease wins. A beautiful holiday wardrobe should still allow them to run, sit on the ground and change quickly.

Do not overpack footwear

One comfortable sandal and one practical closed shoe are usually enough for most warm-weather trips. Shoes consume disproportionate suitcase space, so this is an easy place to edit.

Keep a small wet-bag system

A waterproof pouch or wet bag means damp swimwear can travel back from the pool without taking the rest of the bag with it. If you are moving between destinations, keep one empty bag folded into each child's day bag.

A simple children's holiday capsule

For a week away, think in rotations rather than outfits: two swim options, a few lightweight tops and bottoms, one easy dress or overshirt, sleepwear, two pairs of shoes and a sun hat. Laundry once during the trip can often halve what needs to travel.

The result is a smaller suitcase, quicker mornings and fewer pieces to keep track of. Children still have everything they need, but the wardrobe leaves more room for the actual holiday.
